Advice on Flying - Helicopter

Helicopters are the ultimate mode of transport when versatility, speed as well as spectacular scenic views are the order of the day.  Helicopters can fly into and out of difficult to reach destinations such as heavily congested cities and remote wilderness locations.  Flying at speeds of approximately 175 MPH with a range of 100 - 350 miles, helicopter charter is the perfect choice for small groups of people that need to travel short distances in locations where airfield infrastructure is nonexistent.

Helicopters vary in size, power and comfort.  Smaller helicopters tend to be used for helicopter flying training because they require the pilot to have a greater ‘feel' for the machine to operate it and they are also cheaper to run.  Although flying training is not their only use they have limited use in the commercial world because of their small capacity to carry passengers and luggage.  These helicopters range from the piston-engine Robinson R44 carrying three passengers to the turbine driven Bell JetRanger which carries four people comfortably.

Medium and large helicopters are normally driven by turbine engines whose power-to-weight ratio is the very reason they are widely used across the aviation industry in both helicopters and jet aircraft.  Medium sized helicopters such as the Eurocopter Single Squirrel (AS350) can carry six people including the pilot and are widely used across the world as both light passenger transport and as service aircraft for the police and utility companies.  Larger commercial twin-engine helicopters such as the Sikorsky S-76 carry up to nine people in total VIP comfort and are normally fitted with auto pilot and the ability to avoid poor weather by flying through or over clouds.
